Though my goal right now is to work in the styles I'm going to be using in my children's portfolio I like to branch out and try other things. I like designing characters that are rendered really well and look like paintings. I don't have the practice in to do them quickly yet. I'm also working on refining my skills.
The place I usually go to get ideas is www.conceptart.org. Right now they are doing a Wizard of Oz in their Character of the Week. I haven't finished yet (and may not before their deadline), but I'm still going to show you my goth Dorothy as my sketch for today. If I do get the chance to work on this and finish tomorrow I'll be sure to post it (but that will count as a sketch too, because it's very involved). If I don't finish tomorrow I'll try to get it done somewhere down the road (along with all my other piles of sketches) so you all can see the final piece.

Edit: My computer screen is really dark (even at the lightest settings) How does this look on your computer? I want it to be dark, but if it's too dark I'll bump up the brightness.

Hi Dani. Its medium dark on my comp. but my screen tends to be wishy washy. So i guess that description aint any good. If I tilt screen back it goes too dark.I knew it was from Wizard of Oz and I wasnt expecting such a change of direction lol. I like it.

i have my screen set dimmer than most peoples. the bright white hurts my eyes. and looking at your pic is not too dark. looks fine from here.
